Color is one of nature’s most sophisticated tools to capture the attention of all living creatures. In this hands-on workshop at the exquisite Dunn Gardens, Lorene will talk about color, its role in a pleasing landscape, and how her daily painting practice has introduced an expansiveness to the way she views the world.
Using watercolors and working with plants and natural materials, participants are invited to explore color mixing and matching, with a focus on hidden hues and nuance. No previous experience is necessary—this isn’t botanical illustration, but rather a mindful exercise in concentration and learning to see with fresh eyes. Following a brief introduction, using supplied materials, participants will create a nature-based color study.
Lorene Edwards Forkner is an author and speaker whose work centers on exploring the wonders of the natural world. She regularly contributes to the weekly GROW column for Pacific NW Magazine in the Seattle Times and is the author of numerous gardening titles, including “Color In and out of the Garden.”
