Far and Near: Native and Not-So-Native Plants for the Pacific Northwest Gardener with Daniel Mount

Members: $12,  Non-members: $20. Recording will be available to registrants for 4 weeks after the event.

July 16, 2025 @ 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Past NHS Board Member Daniel Mount will take us on an engaging tour of Pacific Northwest ecosystems and their plants. He’ll explain what makes a plant native or not, share which native species perform best in a garden situation, and tell you why you should – or shouldn’t – plant them. Part travelogue, part how-to, this lively presentation will illustrate the ups and downs of gardening with native plants in the Pacific Northwest.

Speaker’s Bio:

Daniel Mount is a retired garden creator, writer and botanist who hails from a long line of wandering gardeners, nurserymen and farmers. Originally from Wisconsin, he received his B.S. in botany from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and completed a taxonomic botany internship at the Missouri Botanical Garden. He was lead gardener for Ethel Rae Perkins Garten Gestaltung in the Rhineland of Germany and curator at Orto dei Semplici Elbano in Italy. Daniel now makes his home on a 7-acre farm in the Snoqualmie Valley, where he and his partner grow a wide variety of edibles and ornamentals, specializing in ferns and mums. He writes for many West Coast horticulture publications, and has had articles appear in Fine Gardening and The American Gardener.
