Climate Connections: Exploring West Coast Native Plants and Global Counterparts in the Miller Garden (SOLD OUT)
Members: $45, Non-members: $55
May 21, 2025 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Join Head Gardener Del Brummet for a rare opportunity to experience the esteemed Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden. The grounds are set into a sloped landscape overlooking the Puget Sound whose maritime air moderates the garden’s climate, which features many different soil types and microclimates. He will focus on how Elisabeth Miller thoughtfully combined West Coast native plants with specimens from similar climates from across the world to create an adaptable and compelling garden. He will also illustrate how the horticultural staff continue to develop and experiment with Mrs. Miller’s botanical legacy.
Speaker Bio:
NHS board member Del became interested in plants through hiking and building trails with the Washington Trails Association. At the University of Washington, he worked in a restoration ecology lab researching propagation techniques, with a focus on native plants of the Garry oak ecosystem. He graduated in 2014 with a bachelor of science degree in biology and joined the Miller Garden the following year. He teaches about native and exotic plants, propagation, and species of seasonal interest for NHS.
A portion of the class fees will be donated to the Great Plant Picks program.
