Members: $12.00 - Non-members: $20.00
January 24, 2024 @ 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

What were the most popular English gardening books in the 1600s? The 1700s? The 1800s? Brian Thompson will introduce you to these early books from the collection of the Elisabeth C. Miller Library. Like the best garden books of today, these provide basic techniques plus tips for growing the most robust flowers and vegetables, while introducing the latest, trendy plants with gorgeous pictures!

Brian has been curator of the Miller Library’s print collections, including rare books, for 18 years. He writes regular reviews in the NHS Garden Notes, often dipping back in time to include classic writers and titles. The origins of this presentation began as an article he wrote for the Book Club of Washington four years ago. He has a special interest in the writings that demonstrate how keen gardeners from centuries ago are not much different from those of today.
This recording will be sent within 48 hours and will be available for viewing by the registrant for four weeks.
