Dishing Dirt with Richie and Bess: Summertime Gardens

Bess and Richie are back with their best tips and suggestions to help your garden look its best! They will tackle the list of summer chores and let you know what needs to be done now and what can wait. They’ll discuss some of their favorite annuals to use for a boost of color as summer heats up. Have you started to see damage on your plants? Learn about common Pests and Plagues of Summer. Do you have questions? Now is the time to ask two of NHS’ s experienced experts!

Speakers’ Bios:

Bess Bronstein is an ISA certified arborist, educator and horticultural consultant based on the Kitsap Peninsula in Kingston, Washington. She has 35 years of experience in arboriculture, landscape management and garden design. Bess was an instructor at the Edmonds College horticulture program for 28 years, with a focus on courses in pruning and tree care, plant identification, plant pests and diagnosis, and soils.

Richie Steffen, former president and board member of NHS, is enthusiastic about (or more accurately, obsessed with) plants. He is the executive director for the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden where he oversees the Garden, its rare plant collections and its primary educational program, Great Plant Picks
