Dunedin Botanic Garden with Dylan Norfield

Members $10, Non-Members $15

June 8, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Dunedin is a small city in the South of New Zealand with a population of 120,000. It has strong links with its Scottish heritage and bagpipes can often be heard at celebrations along with the presence of a ceremonial Haggis. The Botanic Garden, New Zealand’s first botanic garden, is a jewel in the south, with a temperate climate housing over 6800 species of plants. It is the climate that makes it such a special place to grow plants, allowing sub-tropical through alpines plants to grow outside in their own niches.

Dunedin Botanic Garden is fortunate enough to have traditional botanic collections as well as aesthetic collections. Many of these plants are wild collected and showcase rare and unusual plants and the diversity that can be grown in this climate. Dylan is a passionate plant collector with over 1000 species in his own garden and will highlight many plants that he is excited to grow.

A recording of this lecture will be sent to all registrants within 48 hours. The recording will be available for viewing by the registrant for two weeks.

Dylan Norfield is Collections Supervisor at Dunedin Botanic Garden, managing the plant collections, staff and operations. He started at the Botanic gGarden 14 years ago in the Rose and Herbaceous Collection, moved on to the Geographic and Arboretum Collections and has been in the current role for two years. Dylan is originally from the UK where he ran Norfield’s Nursery for 10 years, exhibiting at Royal Horticultural Society Shows, receiving over 30 RHS Gold Medals and 5 Chelsea Flower Show Gold medals.
